30 ROCKS! Surprise Birthday Party

Photo Booth Props

Sara and her husband, Michael

What a busy week! We moved locations at work to a beautiful new building further away from home.  Still not sure how I feel about that, but I start tomorrow whether I have a working computer and phone or not.  I helped my soon-to-be sister-in-law pick her wedding theme (is it me, or where there a lot of hyphens in that sentence?).  We also went to a birthday party for one of our favorite six-year-olds and pulled off a surprise 30th birthday party for my beautiful sister! I managed to mentor, squeeze in a sunset hike  and a six mile walk to train for the PSC.  Man, what am I doing blogging? I need a nap! Oh, wait, I got one of those in today too! It was such a whirlwind, but so fulfilling and fun at the same time.  The dishes can wait, right? I’m living my life over here!  Here are some pictures from our fun-filled surprise party.  My apologies that there aren’t any tutorials, because seriously? Who had time for THAT?!?

Photo Booth Instructions

I was able to set the photo booth up in less than an hour with poster putty, streamers, balloons and props.  Set a stool, table or chair nearby to hold props and the camera.  This was SUCH a hit!

Me and my mom! We had so much fun!

30 Rocks! Party Favors

Of course the kids had more fun with this than the adults! But I am all about

30 ROCKS!

Wishing Tree Instructions

Make sure to guide your guests to the wishing tree, or they won’t know it’s there!

I had a lot of fun making this!

Wishing Tree Set-Up

I set up a bucket filled with pens, paper and ribbon nearby.  TIP: Buy business card templates, and cut in half horizontally.  Use a hole punch to create a hole in the upper left hand corner to tie wishes to the tree. I also provided different colored pens to choose from.

Cheers to 30 Years! Signs

Thanks goes to my sister, Jessica, for creating the “Cheers to 30 Years” signs! We hung them throughout the house.

Stenciled Cake Instructions

Disclaimer: This cake was WAY prettier in person! I need a better camera!

(any suggestions?)

Shadow Box

My Aunt made this beautiful shadow box for Sara.  Guess it runs in the family, eh?

Here are mine.

MENU:

ACTIVITIES:

  • Photo Booth
  • Wishing Tree
  • Minute to Win It Games
  • Who Am I? Game: Get “Hello My Name Is” labels from the dollar store.  Write famous people’s names on them.  I did males for the men and females for the women just to narrow it down a little bit.  Lucille Ball, Michael Phelps, Superman, Marge Simpson.  Get creative but not obscure.  Pick one label per person, stick it to their backs and don’t let them see who they are.  They get to ask each person at the party three yes/no questions to try and figure out who they are. Trust me, even people who hate playing party games get going on this one!

I want to end this with a little note to my sister, Sara:

I love you! We’ve come a long way from clown shows in your crib 😉

I hope you have an amazing 30th year!
