Happy Sunday to you! It’s a cloudy, warmish day here.  The dog stinks, football is on in the background, I’m drinking some pumpkin beer and enjoying the house without that husband guy, which only means I don’t feel guilty giving myself a manicure, picture editing and blogging instead of vegging on the couch with him and having a proper dinner.  It’s been one hell of an amazing weekend, which included a “short” hike turned six miles, a visit with one of our sweet nieces, decorating for Halloween, seeing Garth Brooks in concert and waking up to Joe-brewed coffee yesterday and today.  I wish you guys could know how amazing my husband makes coffee.  It only happens on the weekends, but then he makes me a cup, and I wake up to the smell of it in our bedroom because he leaves it on my bedside table.  It seriously puts Starbucks to shame.  It’s wonderful and incredibly sweet of him so all week long I drink crappy black coffee at work, anticipating Joe’s coffee and it’s that.much.better. Swoon!

But anyway.  I am finally moving on to the second half of my recent trip, which included a day trip to Zaanse Schans, Amsterdam.  We stayed in the city of Amsterdam, in an incredibly cool hostel, and veered off in the direction of the most picturesque town I’ve ever been in.  It was like transporting in time to this cookie-cutter gingerbread village of wonderfulness. I mean, I can’t even express how freaking cute this place was.  The atmosphere of chirping birds, wind rustling through trees, water rippling.  Windmills, livestock, boats, it was like a page out of a fairy tale.  I have a stupid number of photos that I’m about to throw at you, so no joke, get comfortable.  Go grab a drink.  And scroll slow.  They’re beautiful.  (side note: very little editing went into these – it’s just THAT gorgeous there.  most of these are straight from the camera)

You know what I love about Europe? The way they treat their food.  Livestock roams free, munching on grass and hanging out with their animal BFFs.  It’s wholesome and beautiful.  You know I’m a vegetarian, but if everyone else has to eat meat, at least the animals can live a good life before slaughter…Zaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comCobblestone! I miss cobblestone.  The sound of heels clacking on it, suitcase wheels clicketing on it, the thought required not to each s*#t when it trips you up while walking on it… It really keeps you in the moment!Zaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comI LOVED the food experience in Amsterdam! Stinky cheese, crusty bread, full-bodied beer.  Eating in the shade on a beautiful day at a rustic wood table with good company and nature around me.  Heaven on Earth.Zaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.comZaanse Schanse Amsterdam paintedposies.com
