camping in the pines

One of the best things about Phoenix in the summer is leaving it behind for the cool temps up north.  There is nothing fun about baking in the “dry” 110 degree heat in June.  Really, nothing.  The  only consolation is that it’s not monsoon season yet, because then our oven becomes a sauna and it’s not anywhere near “dry” around here.  It gets humid and muggy and stays 110.  Fun times.  SO, needless to say, us Phoenicians find anything we can to get relief, which brings me to the point.  Recently, my husband Joe and I went camping up north, and got all flash happy.  Because, seriously, there are few things to do when camping with just two people.  Oh, with a campfire ban.  And no lake nearby.  We got creative, but we mostly hiked and took pictures.  Here are some of my favorite shots from the trip.

Sun Shining Through the Pines

I was having fun taking pictures of the sun filtered through the trees.  I’m not really that great of a photographer, but I try pretty hard and sometimes get a good shot (I think it’s good, so don’t burst my bubble, OK? haha)

Fallen Tree

This fallen tree had rotted almost all the way through – you can see the small hole starting at the other end of the log.  I thought it was kind of neat…

Little Bugger

This little bugger sat still the whole time I creeped closer.  I just wish he were a darker color, so there was more contrast in this photo…

Question Tree

Sometimes nature creates the coolest things, don’t you think?

Snow on the Mountains

We were surprised to see snow on the mountains still.  Even up north, it was still in the high 70’s while we were there.

Decaying Tree

I find decaying wood sort of fascinating…

Sunset on the Mountain

The sun setting on the mountain top.

Moon Shine

We weren’t expecting such a bright moon at night.  It was so luminous (fancy word of the week, that one) that we were able to see our shadows.

Joe and Amy

Joe and I cheesing it up for the camera… unwashed hair and all!

So what plans do you have to get out of the heat this summer? Do you enjoy camping too? I’d love to hear from you!
