checking in on the garden: January 2014

image

Hello! Not sure if you noticed or not, but it’s winter.  Yeah, I know, SURPRISE! I have some local friends who are rocking the Phoenix winter garden, but I am so totally not.  We had a freeze last month that I was not prepared for, and well… let’s just say, my garden looks like death.  Well, at least it did until I ripped out all the damaged goods.  So here are some pictures of the current status of things:

Bell Pepper Plant

Our bell pepper plant hanging in there

Artichoke

I wish I had chosen a different spot for this little warrior… he is so cramped in the corner!

Sad Little Squash

I didn’t rip out the damaged squash because of the new growth coming through. Not sure it makes much of a difference at this point though…

Carrots in the Foreground

At least our carrots are seemingly happy! Behind them are the squash plants, then the artichoke plant

Vinca and Lily

We apparently have a crazy strong variety of vinca- I was told they wouldnt last through last fall! And our lilies are tough little buggers!

Elephant Food Plant

At least my beloved elephant food plant is coming back full and happy!

What’s the plan for January, you ask? Great question.  To which I have no answer for.  Just not feeling it right now, you know? I probably should harvest the carrots, because why not, right? Otherwise, I sprinkled some flower seeds in the pots out front and intend to fertilize everything here soon.  And then… total laziness sets in! I will do more for February, but right now, I’m just not that into you my little garden. What are you planning for your garden this year?
