Gallery Wall Part One: Framing A Keepsake

Hey there! How was your weekend? Are you as sad as me that it is already Sunday night? I had a great time this weekend though.  And even though I didn’t get as much done as I had planned, I still managed to get some yard work done that was left over from being rained out last weekend, have a birthday party for my mom, hike this morning and visit with people that I love.  Can’t beat that, right?

I started working on our gallery wall today.  I love it when you go to do something that you’ve been planning and then you realize you are missing some pretty important things.  Like, oh, I don’t know… Maybe pictures for your gallery wall? HA! I guess I forgot to get them printed out this last week.  But I did get the frames I needed for these little guys.  Check them out:

Framed Metal Hearts

I know a lot of us are pretty sentimental, and if you are anything like me, you collect trinkets.  The horseshoe is from a visit to my Dad in Colorado, and the hearts are from my husband when he was playing around with a laser cutter.  They don’t mean much to anyone else, and they certainly don’t mean much when they are lying in a box collecting dust.  So I decided to frame them and use them for the our gallery wall revamp. Before I go any further, I have to admit that I don’t know what the deal is with “gallery walls” these days.  Apparently, I’ve had one for years and didn’t even realize it! To me, they are just pictures on the wall.  But if you check out Pinterest, they are all the rage right now.  Ours is a little tired, with crooked and outdated pictures covered in dust.  And with all that pinspiration, I decided to add some sparkle.  In the meantime, here is the how-to on framing a keepsake.

First, supplies:

Framing A Keepsake Supplies

Not pictured: Velcro tape, scissors and black fabric.

**You will not need the glass from the frame**

First, you’ll want to measure the black fabric to the frame and cut it out.

Framing A Horseshoe

Cut your velcro tape into the right size strips and attach one side to the trinket.

Framing Metal Hearts

Play with your layout in the frame to get the trinkets the way you want them.  Then, peel the protective backing from the velcro and flip the trinket over to adhere to the black fabric inside the frame.

And you’re done! What will you be framing next?

Stay tuned for the before and after of our new and improved gallery wall!
