It’s that time of month again, where we check in on the garden and see what’s popped up! I haven’t had much time for our little guys this last month, so whatever is happening is going on due to it’s own ambition. I’ve managed to water once a week (or so) for the last month, and these babies are hanging on for dear life! Here is what we’ve got so far:
As you can see, we have the thrivers: Pumpkin, Eggplant, Bell Pepper, Artichoke and Basil. And our newcomers: Sugar Snap Peas, Carrots, Cilantro and Spinach. The Vincas, Lilies and Lantana aren’t really part of the garden so much as the landscaping, but hey, I needed some pretty to add to the collection! In October, I planted seeds of Tomato, Lettuce, Mesclun Mix and some other things I can’t remember right now (feel free to read about the details here) that didn’t quite make it with our sparse watering schedule. Over the weekend, I trimmed the Basil of all it’s flowers, cut back the Rose bushes up front, cleared the debris and weeds from the garden bed and yard, watered heavily and cut back the Pumpkin plant.
Here’s the game plan for the rest of November:
- Re-plant seeds of Tomato, Lettuce and Mesclun Mix
- Fertilize the veggies (except the Carrots), Roses and Lantana
And that about sums it up. I don’t want to plant too much before the colder months for risk of frost. That, and I really can’t quite keep up with what I have going on now. But seriously, if you want to plant things that just keep going and going, you really should try Artichoke, Eggplant and Basil. Those babies are true fighters! I know many of you are closing up shop on your garden this time of year, but I’d love to hear what you harvested or plan to start once the weather warms up again! Shoot me a line sometime, I love your comments!
P.S. I took this picture of one of the eggplant flowers and had a little fun with editing the photo. It’s not true-to-life, but I thought it turned out kind of cool!
