happy birthday to him

Hey there! Aaaand, it’s going to be Monday again.  Yea.  We’re going to reminisce a little on the weekend to try to get through tomorrow – hope you don’t mind.  Friday was Mr. Husband Man’s birthday and so of course I threw an epic party to celebrate the occasion.  We had such a great time with awesome friends! Unfortunately, I have to keep the “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” rule and talk about the food and other tame things so as not to out anyone.  Hope you don’t mind 😉 Really, it wasn’t that wild, but it kind of sounds mysterious when I say it that way, doesn’t it?

I did heavy appetizers since the party started at seven.  I knew there would be a lot of alcohol but didn’t want to work through a dinner instead of relaxing with such a great crowd.  In other words, people needed food in their tummies, but I was being lazy.  I did chips, a veggie and fruit tray, cheese platter with several cracker and olive choices, spinach artichoke dip with bread, homemade pretzels (recipe here), bacon wrapped tater tots (recipe here – I did eliminate the chili powder and brown sugar though and they seriously disappeared within five minutes), and a sub platter provided by Joe’s parents.  For the cake, I opted to keep it cool and light – you know, 100+ temperatures and all.  Angel food cake with whip cream and sugared strawberries was perfect.

Birthday Party Bar

we have a wet bar in our kitchen, and it’s easiest to put the two-liters on ice in the sink than stock up on several different 12-packs of soda varieties.  it also eliminates the next-day half-empty can toss (such a waste!)

Strawberry Shortcake Birthday Cake

admittedly, i was a little tossed when i assembled this cake.  but the birthday boy didn’t seem to mind the mess – and it was gone in minutes! also note joe’s self-proclaimed “creepy ‘stache” that will be gone next month before we go to san diego for the fourth.  he said he doesn’t want to scare the locals there but i think he’s cute anyway.

We kept everyone cool with an outdoor mastercool swamp cooler that runs off our hose and outdoor electrical outlet.  I put out board games and ran around snapping semi-flattering pictures of the party guests while everyone socialized, played games and celebrated this awesome guy.  From what I hear, it was a successful party! Aside from the fact that we need a new guest bathroom toilet, that is.  But whatever.  It’ll hopefully be fixed before the Pumpkin Party. Nothing freaks tipsy people out more than a slow toilet.

Joe and Amy 2014

We look like we kind of like each other, huh? Man, this guy.  Anyway, I hope you guys have a great week! I’ll be back Wednesday for my weekly photo post.
