Well, we finally made it to our second training day over the weekend. It wasn’t nearly as brutal as the first go at it, and we were able to fit two mountains into one day (I’m pretty impressed with us!) For details on our first day of training, click here.
We started at the Phoenix Mountain Preserve, but after circling around for 20 minutes trying to find a place to park, we decided to head to our second destination: Lookout Mountain.
Lookout Mountain – the sky was a little hazy today
Since our goal was to get two mountains hiked in one day, we cruised over to North Mountain after we reached the top of Lookout Mountain. We weren’t quite so exhausted after hiking Lookout as we were our first training day at Piestewa Peak.
one happy little hiker–she’s starting to forgive me for getting her into this mess!
North Mountain
Goals we met today
- Hike two summits in one day
- Hike over 5 miles
- Try not to complain as much (note the as much part!)
Side note: Piestewa Peak was a 1200 foot elevation gain to the top, these two mountains combined were just about 800. Probably why we weren’t as exhausted afterwards!
I’m looking forward to our next training day in a couple weeks, but dreading our two South Mountain hikes. They are a total of 9 miles and 2000 feet elevation gain. YIKES! Those will probably be our last hikes in the training process. In the meantime, we’ll be hiking Shaw Butte and Phoenix Mountain Preserve next. Wish us luck… we’ll need it!
