This year’s Ocean Beach trip was nothing short of awesome! We explored new areas, ate at a couple new restaurants, visited with old friends and made new ones, had the best weather and relaxed – the most important part of the whole trip. It’s been a rough year, as you guys know, so we were especially looking forward to unwinding and letting the beach wash away all of our troubles from the year (if you need a refresher, check here). Per usual, the laid back OB vibes did the trick and before we knew it, we were under the ocean’s spell. Crashing waves, sandy pedicures, cool breezes, sunshine on bare skin, the smell of sugar and BBQ’s… there’s no other way to get our head out of the Phoenix desert than to wind down at Ocean Beach.
We rode up to OB with our niece and her boyfriend this time around, and their company kept us going for the six hour journey. It was neat because our niece’s BF had never really been to California, let alone Ocean Beach. To see our favorite place through a newcomer’s eyes, especially when they are thoroughly enjoying themselves, was pretty rewarding. Taking him to all our favorite spots for him to experience them felt like we were there for the first time, too.
BBQ House was a favorite this year, and while it’s not new per se, it’s new to our Ocean Beach repertoire. Every time I lost track of the group, I was able to find them here. I didn’t try their barbecue, but I heard it was delicious between sauced up mouthfuls! They had an awesome selection of beers on tap and even more bottled, which I know from exploring that menu a bit. Ha!
OB Brewery IS new, and they are pretty awesome! Three floors of beer and food, with three home brewed options among the vast list of craft beers available. We didn’t eat here, but the place was happenin’! It’s tall but small, so get there when a table opens up and then stick around because it doesn’t get any easier to find a seat after that.
I didn’t get as many pictures this year as I have in years past. But that’s probably because I was having so much fun! I’ll be doing a separate post for our exploration of Point Loma. We had never checked out the peninsula before, and it was super neat! We intend to visit again, maybe even in the winter for low tide. Stay tuned!
